Lithium-ion batteries and battery energy storage systems are increasingly used in commercial, industrial and renewable-energy applications, bringing new fire and explosion considerations. NFPA 855: 2026, the current Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems, addresses commissioning, operation and maintenance, electrochemical energy storage, lithium-ion battery storage, thermal-runaway considerations, ventilation and explosion-control measures.
